Offspring of Sandhill Cranes leave the nest a day after hatching. I had to look up what they are called and found this word strange: Colts.

This species is difficult to photograph. They rarely sit long enough for one photo.

I have walked here with Maggie many times, but the recent hear spells are to difficult for me to tolerate. I took this scene yesterday from inside my car, then added the flowers today.

This Egret stood a long distance from where I was with my camera. This male is still carrying his Spring plumage. He will soon lose those very long feathers.

The Sandhill Crane parents must have left the nest very recently. The chick is not visible in the tall cattails. It will take a few weeks before I will be able to see if they have one or two chicks.

I walked through Seven Ponds Nature Center in Dryden, Michigan. It was raining, but the colors are very clear and crisp. All photos I photographed are from today at the Nature Center Wildflower Garden.

I have never seen a sandhill crane sitting on the nest. I was lucky to have spotted this bird, even though the nest is many hundreds of feet away.
