Origins dating back to the 11th century, with surviving Saxon and Norman features give the church its present form. The small board seen left describes Norman carvings, which includes a lintel depicting St George and the Dragon. The philosopher Thomas Hobbes, author of Leviathan. spent his final years at nearby Hardwick Hall and was buried in the church in 1679. Memorials to the Cavendish family, reflect the church's close connection with the Hardwick and Chatsworth estates.
Ault Hucknall itself is often described as England's smallest village, consisting of the church,. a farm and two houses.

A photo from 2011,. 'Egerton Lane' - in Sheffield centre.. due to re-development,. little now remains of this back street of old Sheffield.. once packed with housing and small cutlery workshops. This is an area of the city that Hitler's bombs missed during the intense air raids on this once great heavy industry and steel manufacturing city.

The larger 'Miller's pond' at Hardwick park,. a series of 5 ponds close to the hall., which include two 'ice houses' where in winter ice was brought up from the ponds and stored to serve the needs of the hall.

A view South from the delightful old town of 'Grassington',.. towards housing alongside the most fascinating 'Linton Falls' where the wide 'River Wharfe' squeezes through a narrow rocky gorge,. of only 1.5 metres wide. Similar to ''The Strid'' further north, where to go into the water would mean certain death.

A view along the former towpath of the the 'Leeds' to 'Liverpool' Canal - this remarkable work of engineering ,. began in 1770 and covers a distance of 127 miles (204 km), including 91 locks.
Interestingly - the wall to the left is where the 'River Aire' runs from 'Right to Left' 10 metres 'below' the canal.

Despite massive lean back,. the full width of wall painting is not shown,, and isn’t one single scene it’s more of a collage of symbols about Chesterfield.

Market life,. lots of objects you would find on Chesterfield Market.
Hands... representing buying, selling, and community trade.
A shire horse,.. historically used around the market.
A cattle brass,.. referencing Chesterfield’s old cattle market.
A pomegranate,.. taken from the town’s coat of arms.
Various everyday items tied to local stories and traders.

The artist, 'Peachzz', designed it using ideas gathered from local residents and traders, so it’s meant to reflect the town’s identity and heritage rather than one literal image.

A deliberate under exposure to bring out the,. (better when seen) ,.'twinkling' sun spots on the water surface,. at 'Hardwick 'Millers' pond' one of a series of small ponds close to the 'Hardwick Hall'
There are two 'ice houses' nearby,. below ground rooms packed with straw - where when available ice was taken from the ponds - stored and used to supply the hall.

An unused Harrower stands decaying in the fields of 'Ault Hucknall'. , a village consisting of > a Cottage - St.John the Baptist's Church - a cemetery - a working farm - and 'The old Manse' ,. then nothing more - just open fields,, known by locals as 'the smallest village in England'
The Philosopher 'Thomas Hobbes' who died at nearby 'Hardwick Hall' - was interred within the Church following his death in 1679.

Another view from 'Brodsworth Hall' - seen from the 'Summer house' the grounds here are tended by staff and also volunteers who perform wonderful work to maintain these gardens to a high standard equal to any in the UK., the more colourful flowerbeds and borders are out of shot from here.

This is a three photo stitch processed and tweaked in 'Lightroom' . 9.2.1
