Indycaver (Norm) has posted an article:

We’re excited to announce that Flickr has agreed to be acquired by SmugMug, the photography platform dedicated to visual storytellers.

SmugMug has a long history of empowering people who love photography and who want to improve their craft, making them a perfect fit for Flickr and our creative community. With SmugMug, we’ll continue to focus on you, the Flickr members who inspire us all with your work.

Nothing will change immediately with regard to your Flickr account. You will still access Flickr with your current login credentials and you will have the same Flickr experience as you do now. We will continue to work to make your Flickr experience even better.

We think you are going to love Flickr under SmugMug ownership, but you can choose to not have your Flickr account and data transferred to SmugMug until May 25, 2018. If you want to keep your Flickr account and data from being transferred, you must go to your Flickr account to download the photos and videos you want to keep, then delete your account from your Account Settings by May 25, 2018.

If you do not delete your account by May 25, 2018, your Flickr account and data will transfer to SmugMug and will be governed by SmugMug’s Terms and Privacy Policy.

Read more detailed FAQs about this transition on the Flickr Blog.

We’re happy that Flickr is your home for photography and we look forward to the next chapter in our adventure together as we join the SmugMug family.

Thanks,

Drambuie passed away two weeks ago after being groomed. I'd been out of town for several days with work and the girls were staying at the vet/kennel where they always do when I have to be away. Tawny has really been missing her big sister, but we've been taking long walks in the evening which we couldn't do in the past since Drambuie wasn't up to walking very far. She would have been 13 in August.

The photo is of the basement pit for a new home being dug a lot away from my house. You can see my pickups in the distance. Everywhere around here you see ads for "Call Before You Dig" and this contractor did just that. They painted lines for every utility in the area ... including my gas line to my house ... and even though it's on the wrong side of the fence for the digging .... I had a yellow line painted on my grass for it. The best I can tell the painting of the lines gave the digger a target to aim for and he successfully cut the power to the street lights for two blocks! I've been trying without success for over a week now to get them turned back on. About 2:AM Wednesday morning I'm sitting out on my porch swing while the girls are taking care of business and looking for rabbit trails in the yard ... and even though my Chevy 2500 HD is white ... you can just barely see it it's so dark out there! We go in and sleep until 7:00 AM and then I put the girls out again before breakfast. My Uncle passed away last week and I was planing on taking the day off and driving to southern Indiana to attend the funeral. I go outside to call the girls in and I notice ... my Chevy 2500 HD is no longer parked where I left it. It's gone! I call the police and get an officer out to take the report within an hour. We look where the truck parked and see a small pile of window glass laying there. Now that I have my police report ... I call my insurance agent to report it stolen and by the time this is done ... there is no way I can drive the two hours I need to drive and make it to the funeral in time. I go on into work, but with the stupidity going on there ... I probably should have stayed home! A few hours later I learn there was an attempted theft of a neighbor's truck a couple of blocks away. They smashed the window and tore the steering column apart and I was figuring my truck suffered the same fate! Sleeping was pretty difficult last night as a result! I could just see my truck in a vacant lot someplace stripped down to the bare bones! About 10:AM Thursday morning I get a call from IPD that they have found my truck and figuring the worst ... I have them tow it to the impound yard. I get there and look it over and the only damage I can see is the smashed driver's side window and the overhead cab light yanked out. I put the key in and it starts right up! I head back to work and wait until my daughter can give me a ride up there to get it. It puzzled me how they drove it off that way, but I came to the conclusion they towed it away. It was found with a car dealer's plate on it which I figure was stolen as well. Once I got the transmission linkage reconnected ... I drove on back to the house and put it into the garage. Then I took the Firebird back to my storage unit and brought the little Chevy home. I feel very lucky they found it as quick as they did and the damage was no more than it was. I've got repairs to make and a new truck plate to get to replace the stolen plate, but at least it's home again!

I'm sorry I haven't been around Ipernity very much lately. but I've been covered up at work and at home trying to get everything in shape for winter. Tuesday night was the last photography club competition and I entered three photos. I recieved good comments on all of them, but I did pull in a first place with this one.

This is an older photo of my old Chevy ... though my new Chevy is old too ... just 10 years newer. It has been my backup truck for several years now and recently has been sidelined with a number of problems. A leaky waterpump being the biggest concern. This week I have been spending my evenings working on it much to the dismay of the girls. I should really just pull the drivetrain out of it and send the remainder off to the auto recyling yard, but I think I may try and squeeze a couple more years out of it. I'd originally thought I'd fix it up and keep it, but a while back I found a section of the frame that needs replaced and it's more of a job than I want to tackle with my current shop setup. Tonight ... I worked on removing all of the old hydraulic hoses from under the truck. It use to have a large soil probe mounted on the back before I purchased it from Uncle Sam. The photo below is from it's soil surveying days. They removed the probe and mounted it on a new truck 12 years, or so ago,

but they left a mess of hydraulic hoses and control cables under it. They did away with the spare tire mount when they originally installed the probe and I'm putting that back together. I've been running around with the spare tire in the bed and it's always in the way when I want to haul something. I've got plans to haul a lot of stuff away from here when it's done.

I finally got a full night’s sleep last night. The first in about three days. My oldest four legged furry buddy has made it a point to wake me up about every two hours. The cool weather of the last few days has had her wanting to be outside instead of hanging out over the A/C vents like she normally does. I'd leave them both outside ... except the younger one likes to talk to the neighbor’s cats ... very loudly!

One, or both of the girls demand a hand scratching their ears most of the time when I'm home.

We finally got to the site after a very long drive and I noticed a honey locust tree with a large amount of burled growth on the branches. I pulled out the camera and went to set the exposure … and I found the camera battery was completely dead! I normally carry a spare … though, I rarely need one, but the spare was in the charger at home since I’d just put this battery in on Friday. I normally shoot for a month, or more, on a charge. Live and learn I guess! We’ll see if the both recharged batteries hold a charge now. I guess, outside of the burled branches, it was good I didn’t see anything I really wanted to photograph!

"When longtime nanny Vivian Maier died in 2009, she left behind thousands of photo negatives that she'd produced over the years. But the now-famous shutterbug's unique body of work lay in storage until an amateur historian uncovered the trove."

I finally got around to watching the documentary of Vivian Maier's life tonight. It's well worth the time to see, but sadly leaves you with more questions about this great street photographer than answers. Lots of great interviews with former employers and the kids she watched. I think we can look forward to seeing more of her work as it becomes available.

This is not normally the type of book that catches my attention, but I also knew Lee Miller worked as a war correspondent during WWII and I thought I’d give it a try since the library had a copy. The book paints a pretty detailed portrait of the war years and tells the story of Lee Miller and how she went from model to photographer and then to the famous war correspondent for Vogue Magazine. The book is filled with the fashion photos which made Lee Miller famous as well as the photo taken by a friend of hers showing Lee Miller taking a bath in Hitler’s tub in Berlin. I’m not quite to the end of the book yet, but it has been an interesting read.

It was an anonymous critique night where we submitted two photos each. I didn't get burned too bad considering I just grabbed the first photos I found without watermarks. The interesting thing about the night was their use of Lightroom for viewing and editing the photos. I'd purchased a copy of Lightroom some years ago, but I'd yet to load it on the computer with having most of my time taken up working on the other house. I was impressed with Lightroom and I may have to find the time to do that soon. They are planning to bring in a person to teach it soon, but I'm going to do a little reading to see if I'm going to wait for that. We've got a water drop session next time and it should be an interesting evening.
