Some bridges are solid, imposing forms and some are extremely graceful. Some are concrete, some wooden, some are made out of bricks, some of stone and some are made of iron or steel. But they have all been built to cross something. Any kind of bridges are welcome here - bridges for motor vehicles, pedestrian bridges, train viaducts and aqueducts. It's your choice which you prefer to post. Please post only photos in which the bridge is the main subject and strictly dominates the photo (preferable from the side as profile). If the bridge is merely the component in a landscape, as opposed to the main subject of the photo, please post it somewhere more suitable. The bridge should be recognizeable from viewing the thumbnail - if not it could be a sign that it isn't the main subject of the photo. Please geotag your photo, or include location information in the description, so others can see where the photo was taken.

Herb Riddle has started a discussion:

As a recent newcomer to this group, I quickly contributed some of my many bridge photos. Or at least, what I have always considered a bridge photo. Now, I realise that this group may be in fact a little more choosy than I first thought because some of my bridges are technically viaducts! Looking through the contributions here I see one or two other obvious viaducts but not many. Maybe a little clarification needs to be added by our moderators?

Cambridge Dictionary:
Bridge - noun - "a structure that is built over a river, road, or railway to allow people and vehicles to cross from one side to the other:"

Viaduct - noun -"a long, high bridge, usually held up by many arches, that carries a railway or a road over a valley"

So it seems that I must be OK with my viaducts too.

Any other thoughts?

just would like to say - I´m back. At first I haven´t much time because a close friend was evacuated for about a mounth because of a fire (in the neighborhood) which I have to supporting mental during this time, and after that´s done and everything is back to normal I had an serious issue with my Mainboard (which is broken).

So I can´t moderate this group (and my others, too) because - well - moderating with a smartphone isn´t this easy because of missing functions in the app and a not really usable mobile version of ipernity. Bah.

So thanks to the other moderators / admins which helps to let this group stay as it is (haven´t looked at the last constributions, but will take a closer look in the next time - it´s the first boot with the new system now. ;-)

Well... so keep posting bridges to this group...
I just need a few days until I got the needed free time to moderate it in this way.
There won´t be any further note about this. If you don´t want your photos to be removed within a few minutes (or yourself) from this group you should follow this simple rule from now unlike it won´t be active for the moment.

If you won´t comply to this rule feel free to leave this group by NOW (and don´t forget to remove your already added documents first as well) and be happy with your spaming guys by spaming each other.

recently some photos are posted where the bridge was (just) somewhere in the background, not clearly visible, far, far away from being in focus or the main-object of the photo.
Sometimes this make sense if you would like to show the whole bridge to get some step backwards but sometimes not (if you shot a pretty small bridge from 2 miles away it could be still visible on the photo - but not as clear as it would fit in a group which is dedicated special to bridges.

Please keep in mind that the bridge should be the part of the photo which was dominating. Best ones are the photos where the bridge is visible already in the thumbnail- others will get a further look and if not fit the topic/rules kicked out of the group, sorry.

sorry, but I had to delete a few photos out the group cause the bridge are nondominant to the photo. Not every photo which show a bridge somewhere miles away would be perfectly fit to a group called bridges- you should be able to view the bridge without open the full-size photo just somewhere in the background.
Thanks for your appreciation.
Moin,
