Share your experience of taking a photograph on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026.

Examples:

Did you feel connected to the rest of the world?

Did thinking about a photographer you admire bring you to a new direction in your photograph?

Did the desire for a good photo take you to a new place in your world?

What struggles did you encounter?

How was this year's experience different than a prior year?

Team has started a discussion:

Photographs should be taken on Wednesday, August 19th 2026.

This year add the name of A PHOTOGRAPHER WHOSE WORK YOU APPRECIATE in the description!

It's fun to go explore other photographer's work and choose someone that appeals to you. For example: Are you a nature photographer? Have you perused Ansel Adams photos recently? What about street photography? There's always more to investigate about Henri Cartier-Bresson! Or do women photographers interest you? The fairly newly discovered Vivian Maier could be of interest. And of course there are many current photographers worth our attention. One place to look for those is in this list "www.all-about-photo.com/photo-articles/photo-article/1888/best-rising-photographers-of-june-2025"

Maybe you will even be inspired to try and imitate that Photographer - but no pressure! The only requirement for your photo is that it is taken on August 19th.

GUIDELINES FOR YOUR SUBMISSION
1) One photo per photographer.

2) As always, all levels of expertise are accepted.

3) Please add the Keyword "World Photography Day" to your photo.

4) Include a photographer's name in your photo's description - someone whose work you admire.

5) This year, please do not add additional images in the description or add PiP. This will force us all to edit our photos to pick which we really want to share with the group. Good editing is an essential photographic skill!

6) Submissions accepted to the group from August 19th to about 2 weeks after the official World Photography Day (through the end of August).

7) Submit your one best, important, and/or special photograph from the day.

8) Any type of photograph will be accepted.

9) The photo may be modified with any method if you so choose,
but please, no "created" images (for example your own painting, or an image created by a text prompt).

We encourage detailed descriptions about your photo and/or why you chose your photo. This is to help engage everyone in the event by encouraging discussions. So, if possible please consider including a description of your experience taking your photograph. This could be why you chose your subject, how you couldn't get out of the house so you had to photograph something you don't normally choose, how you made a special trip to get your special photograph, or even the technical methods you used, etc.
----------------------------
A few extra points:

** People can only suggest their own photos, as it is a personal decision what photos people consider to be their best, their important, their special photographs.

** Technical perfection is not required to participate.

** It is understood that some people will have conflicts outside their control and so we will accept photographs taken on August 18th, or 20th on a case by case basis. We are a friendly club, not harsh rule enforcers. Please understand if you see a submission accepted to the group that was taken on a different day.

** Note - While you have to become a member of the group to add your photo, you can then leave the group if you so desire while leaving your photo in the group.

    <media:text type="html">
Team has started a discussion:

Photographs should be taken on Monday, August 19th.

One photo per photographer. (As in 2023, for 2024 you may add one additional photo taken on August 19th by including it in the description of your first photo - this is just an option.)

Submissions accepted to the group from August 19th to about 2 weeks after the offical World Photography Day (through the end of August).

Submit your one best, important, and/or special photograph from the day.

Any photographs that are a celebration of the art, craft, science and/or history of photography will be considered for inclusion in the group.

**People can only suggest their own photos, as it is a personal decision what photos people consider to be their best, their important, their special photographs.

**Technical perfection is not required to participate.

** It is understood that some people will have conflicts outside their control and so we will accept photographs taken on August 18th, or 20th on a case by case basis. We are a friendly club, not harsh rule enforcers. Please understand if you see a submission accepted to the group that was taken on a different day.
Please feel free to continue to add comments and also to add to any of the discussions.

You will see there is now a group discussion about if we want to change the focus and rules of the 2023 event.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For two years we have celebrated World Photography Day by taking a photograph on that day, August 19th, then sharing it in the group.

There have been some suggestions made to change this format.

This group discussion is the place to make those suggestions public.

Once ideas have been made here, we can discuss if any changes will be made for 2023.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please note that so far I have been the only person running the event. Some ideas for changes may not be feasible because of that. But please feel free to make all suggestions here.

    <media:text type="html">
raingirl has started a discussion:

I hope you enjoyed our club's special event. I am still making my way through all the great photographs. Please feel free to continue to add comments and also to add to any of the discussions.

Perhaps you can consider the group's discussions a place to talk about photography in general, or to ask questions you may have about a specific photograph, or to share something related but beyond World Photography Day you think people would like to know about.

Also, feel free to link to our group on any social media you may participate in, or share the link with your family and friends outside of ipernity.

----------------------------------------------------------

Contributions are now closed for the year. I think everyone who joined the group got a chance to participate. You might want to check out the photos that showed up between August 19th and August 31st - they were all taken on August 19th and deserve our attention as well.

Sometime well before next year's event we will have a discussion about if we want to change the focus and rules.

For now, thank you to all who participated. I hope it was enlightening and enjoyable for all.

peace,

Examples:

Did you feel connected to the rest of the world?
Were you drawn to photograph something you love?
Did the desire for a good photo take you to a new place in your world?
What struggles did you encounter?

raingirl has started a discussion:

1) You only get one photo for the year, so try to choose a photo that you consider your best photo, the photo that is special to you, the photo that has special meaning to you - taken on August 19th, of course.

2) Please consider including a description about your photo - why you chose it for the group.
Simple is okay - lots of details and info is okay also. We hope to inspire conversations around photography, anything of interest to you. That could be history, equipment, methods, subject matter, etc.

3) Add the keyword "World Photography Day" to your photo.

Please feel free to start a discussion or join in the 'What did you discover' discussion for this year. One can include a photo from the group through html, or simply include a url.

-----------------

Note - While you have to become a member of the group to add your photo, you can then leave the group if you so desire while leaving your photo in the group.

We continue to allow a second photo, but only as included in the description of your one submitted photo - A second photo may be included in your description of your main photo. This photo must also be taken on August 19th, 2025.
